Meg & Billy's Nittany Lion Inn Wedding in State College, PA

Alex Nepa

A Penn State love story come full circle: a ceremony at Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, photos at the Nittany Lion Shrine, a surprise visit from the Lion himself and a packed reception at The Nittany Lion Inn with DJ Alex Nepa.

Meg and Billy met through mutual friends at Billy's apartment during their junior year at Penn State. A year later, Billy moved in right across the hall, and the rest is history. So when it came time to plan their wedding, there was only one place that made sense: Happy Valley.

On August 8, 2026, they said "I do" at Penn State's Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, took their portraits around the University Park campus, and celebrated with 210 to 240 of their favorite people at The Nittany Lion Inn. Alex Nepa, founder of Mint DJ & Event Group, was behind the booth, and Bob Lambert Photography captured every moment.

A ceremony and portraits on Penn State's campus

The day started on campus. After the ceremony at Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, the wedding party made the rounds for photos, including a stop at the Nittany Lion Shrine, one of the most photographed spots on campus. Light blue bridesmaid dresses and navy suits looked right at home in Penn State colors.

The Nittany Lion himself crashed the party

Back at The Nittany Lion Inn, the guest list had one very special addition: the Nittany Lion. He posed with the wedding party outside the Inn and joined the celebration inside, which is about as Penn State as a wedding gets.

Reception at The Nittany Lion Inn

Cocktail hour opened at 5:00 with the classic rock Meg and Billy asked for: the Eagles, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Steve Miller Band. Then the ballroom came alive for the big moments, all back to back so the night could flow straight into dinner:

  1. Grand entrance (6:15): both sets of parents, then the wedding party in pairs, then the first introduction of Mr. and Mrs. Lindoerfer.
  2. First dance: "Lover" by Taylor Swift.
  3. Mother and son dance: Billy and his mom to "Thought You Should Know" by Morgan Wallen.
  4. Father and daughter dance: Meg and her dad danced to a custom mashup the Mint team built just for them. (Looking for ideas? Start with our father-daughter dance songs.)
  5. Blessing and a served dinner (6:30) from the Nittany Lion Inn kitchen.
  6. Toasts (7:30) from the maid of honor and the best man.
  7. Cake cutting to "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies.

Lighting that made the ballroom theirs

Meg and Billy added full room uplighting and a custom monogram. The uplighting washed the ballroom walls in color that matched their palette, and the "Meg & Billy" monogram glowed above the cake table all night. It is one of the simplest ways to make a big hotel ballroom feel personal, and it photographs beautifully.

The dance floor: throwbacks, country and zero line dances

At 8:00 the dance floor opened, and it stayed full until the 10:00 send-off. Their music planner told us exactly what this crowd wanted: 2000s and 2010s throwbacks, party hip-hop, current pop, country and some 80s rock. Their must-play list read like a Penn State house party playlist:

  • "Yeah!" by Usher
  • "Get Low" by Ying Yang Twins
  • "Give Me Everything" and "International Love" by Pitbull
  • "Love On Top" by Beyoncé
  • "Slow Jamz" by Kanye West
  • "Friday I'm in Love" by The Cure
  • "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac
  • "Me On Whiskey" and "Broadway Girls" by Morgan Wallen

Just as important was what they did not want: no Cha Cha Slide, no Electric Slide, no line dances at all, and a short list of overplayed songs they were tired of hearing at weddings. A clear do-not-play list is one of the best things you can give your DJ. It lets us build a night that sounds like you instead of every other wedding.

Planning a Nittany Lion Inn wedding? Tips from our DJs

We play The Nittany Lion Inn often, and Meg and Billy's day is a great model for anyone getting married there. Here is what we'd tell you:

  • Pair it with an on-campus ceremony. Pasquerilla Spiritual Center is right on campus, so you can go from "I do" to photos to cocktail hour without a long drive.
  • Plan your campus photo stops. The Nittany Lion Shrine draws a crowd on football weekends, so leave extra time or go early.
  • Stack the formalities. Doing the entrance, first dance and parent dances back to back before dinner, like Meg and Billy did, keeps the energy up and gives you a long, uninterrupted dance set after dinner.
  • Make a parent dance one of a kind. Can't pick one song? Your DJ can blend two or three into a custom mashup, like the one we made for Meg and her dad.
  • Add uplighting. The ballroom is a blank canvas. Uplighting in your colors and a custom monogram make it feel like your room, not a hotel ballroom.
  • Give your DJ a must-play and do-not-play list. The more specific you are, the more the night will feel like you.
  • Ask about the Nittany Lion. Penn State takes requests for mascot appearances. If you want the Lion at your wedding, ask early.
